We are excited to introduce a new coffee from Kenya, a country with a long-standing reputation and a dedicated fan base for its coffee beans.
The coffee beans have arrived from the Gathatha Factory, a washing station located in the heart of the Nyeri region at elevations between 1800-2100 meters. This station collects coffee cherries from small producers in the surrounding areas.
Established in 1963, the Gathatha Factory is committed to minimizing its environmental impact. It employs various practices to ensure the local ecosystem is preserved, including filtering and treating used water to prevent pollutants from contaminating the local water channels, which are sources of drinking water.
The processing method used is washed. Cherries delivered to the wet mill on the same day are hand-selected to ensure only the ripest are processed. The coffee is then pulped and undergoes traditional natural fermentation to remove the mucilage, followed by soaking, and finally, it is carefully sun-dried on African beds. These meticulous production processes help preserve the distinctive juicy and bright acidity typical of the Nyeri region.
Enjoy this coffee with its crisp, orange-like flavor and a lingering bright citrusy aftertaste, characteristic of its meticulous processing. This is a true representation of the exceptional quality that Kenyan coffee is known for.
